Who Are The Beckhams?

Just one year ago, David Beckham was Mister Goldenballs - a modern day messiah who could do no wrong in the eyes of the public and who seemed to have a charmed relationship with the unquestionably fickle media.

He was arguably the country's greatest footballer, captain of the national team, a multi-millionaire, and happily married to a former Spice Girl with two beautiful children.

If there was a soundtrack to their life, it was Fairground Attraction's "Perfect."

Then along came Rebecca Loos, brandishing the sharp sword of truth (or so she says) to puncture the Beckham bubble and send their seemingly idyllic life spiralling out of control.

Suddenly, he was flesh. And the vultures descended.

The question is: are we only now seeing the real David Beckham, just another low-rent footballer, frequenting late-night bars and willing to cheat on his wife whenever a fancy takes him?

Or are the Beckhams simply victims of the modern-day scourge of fame-by-association? A world where, as they claim, cash-hungry opportunists inviegle themselves into celebrities lives then sell their trumped-up story to a media ever-hungry for showbiz gossip?
